Coronavirus, the government approves a Decree Law to strengthen the health and economic system

After many troubles, the Government is close to the approval of the Decree Law with first measure to reinforce health system and to tackle economic consequences of the epidemiological emergency. As released by Ministry of Economic and Finance, the first step - with an allocation of 25 billions of Euros aims to face the most urgent issues: 3.5 billions of Euros for health interventions; support to all workers, with specific compensations for autonomous workers (600 euros per month for three months with a total amount of 3 billions of Euros) and for employees (100 euros on March), voucher for babysitting for families, suspensions of mortgages and tax obligations. Furthermore it would be preview a liquidity injections of 350 billions of Euros. The Decree Law will contain significant measures also for culture and tourism, also through a specific Fund for Emergency supporting shows and cinema, with an allocation of 130 million euros in 2020, in addition to an extraordinary campaign to relaunch the Italy image abroad. According to Government, this is a first intervention for March, then it will be a further Decree on April with a probable re-extension and modulation of the refreshment mechanism. Among the economic measures, the probable bail-out and re-nationalization of Alitalia , the former flagship air carrier, is starting to creating vibrant protests from political forces and it has caused high tensions between PD and Five Stars. Furthermore, one of the most debated issue is the amount of support to autonomous workers, considered not sufficient by Renzi’s Party. On the same page all opposition political forces, who announced the intention to intervene on the Decree Law during its parliamentary iter. In particular Giorgia Meloni (FdI) has supported the decision of the Government to allocate €25 bn for the emergency, even if she believes that the funds will only have short-term effects, especially the disposals related to autonomous and recalls a strongest economic support to Italian economic recovery by EU. Meanwhile, the Italian model of the management of the COVID-19 is extending to many other EU countries, due to the spread of the contagion. On the today meeting, Eurogroup decided to allow to all national authorities automatic stabilisers to function and in addition implement all necessary measures to ensure that the economic consequences of COVID-19 are tackled and
containment and treatment of the disease are guaranteed, after the announcement by EU President of Commission, Von Der Leyen, on the new guidelines on EU border management measures and a temporary restriction on non-essential travel to EU for an initial period of 30 days, maintaining the flow of goods and essential services.
